Heather — Founder, Iron Ledgers Co.

I didn’t start my career behind a desk.

For 16 years I worked in industrial water treatment, spending my days in boiler rooms, mechanical spaces, and job sites alongside electricians, HVAC techs, welders, and maintenance crews. That’s where I learned something that stuck with me: the people doing the hardest work often get the least guidance when it comes to running the business side of their trade.

After that chapter, I spent several years owning and operating two residential group homes, navigating the challenges of running a small business post COVID years. In 2024, I then stepped in to take over the bookkeeping and financial coordination for two businesses I had an interest in — a marketing company and an automotive business.

What started as a necessity quickly became an obsession.

I began correcting entries, analyzing profit and loss statements, reviewing balance sheets, and working directly with bankers, insurance companies, and accountants. I built daily cash-flow reports, organized accounts payable, created operating budgets, and dug deep into the numbers to understand exactly how the businesses could function better.

That experience taught me something incredibly important:

Most small business owners don’t struggle because they’re bad at their trade — they struggle because no one ever taught them how the financial side works.

I then expanded into working with 1099 welders. The process included setting up LLC’s and S-Corp structures, organizing business deductions, and manage books. It quickly became quite apparent:

Welders and other skilled 1099 tradesmen are rarely taught how to structure their businesses, what business expenses to deduct or how to protect their income.

Many 1099 workers will be in the field for years without realizing the advantages of forming an LLC, managing deductions properly, or paying themselves through an S-Corp structure, when appropriate.

That’s why I created Iron Ledgers Co.

My goal is simple: help hard-working people run stronger businesses by organizing their finances, maximizing legitimate deductions, and creating systems that keep their money working for them — not against them.

In addition to bookkeeping and financial review services, I also help clients with the administrative tasks that often pile up when you’re working long hours — organizing paperwork, managing correspondence, and keeping the day-to-day details of life and business from slipping through the cracks.

Because sometimes the biggest challenge isn’t the jobsite — it’s the paperwork waiting at home.

FUN FACTs about me… if you made it this far

When I’m not working with numbers, I live just outside Eau Claire, Wisconsin with my boyfriend, Cody, two kids: Jaidyn (12) and Jaxson (14), four cats, and our 9 chickens.

When we aren’t spending time at the kid’s sporting events, we like to spend our evenings outside by the bonfire listening to the creek in the woods behind our house — which is a pretty good reminder that life doesn’t always need to be complicated.
